The Bank of Queensland has short listed four possible providers to supply a range of outsourced IT services. The hotly contested contract brings to a close the longstanding lockdown for HP Enterprise Services in supplying IT outsourcing and BPO to the BoQ.

signed a 10-year deal worth $480 million for the provision of both IT services and business process outsourcing (BPO) services.

Information technology and back-office processes at BoQ have been largely under the domain of HP Enterprise Services since 2002, according to the Australian Financial Review . BoQ and HP Enterprise Services, known as Electronic Data Systems (EDS) at the time, signed a 10-year deal worth $480 million for the provision of both IT services and business process outsourcing (BPO) services.

Over time, the deal had been extended to be worth $620 million. It is due to expire this year. It was once considered a safe and lucrative account for HP, given that the bank had a large quota of former EDS executives in its leadership team.

The deal takes on increased importance for BoQ as it will include two components: first, to maintain the services which run the institution on a daily basis; and second, to deliver on plans for a tech transformation which will see key systems upgraded over coming years.

HP remains in the running to retain its contract, but is in competition with Capgemini, Dimension Data and Indian player HCL Technologies.

According to the AFR, Fifteen major vendors were initially in the running to take on the deal. HP remains in the running to retain its contract, but is in competition with Capgemini, Dimension Data and Indian player HCL Technologies.
